Most of the time we spend making sure we don’t make mistakes and to not forget the importance of our dreams and goals. While being accountable is a good thing it can become a huge time waster. While writing down our goals and dreams can be inspiring when done the right way there are many mistakes we can make that are so simple to correct. This article will show you how to correct your time waster and help you achieve your goals quicker and easier.

1. Create a List:
Make a list of every goal you want to achieve, even if you think you can’t realistically achieve them. You can add deadlines to this list as well. Make a copy of this list, save it somewhere safe. Make sure you do this before you start reading this article and before you read any further. The reason for this is you will need this list to go back to later. When you have completed your list you will be able to see how much time you have to work with. Do not add more goals to your list until you have gone back through your list and gone through it again to make sure you have not added any that can be left out or changed.

2. Do it!
Start working on your list by making a list of everything you need to do to complete it.
Example: If your goal is to become a writer and you have planned spending 1 hour a day working on it, then create a list of tasks that you need to do in this 1 hour. This is a important step, keep your list with you. You can add these tasks to your list as you achieve them. As you achieve them you can delete the old ones. Remember to go back to your list regularly and add your new tasks, sometimes a task or a goal may not have been written down or added yet.

3. Measure Your Progress:
Once you have gone through your list, you need to write down how much time you are spending on each task. The goals that you have written out can be very daunting, you might think you have no time to achieve them. This is why you need to write it out and measure how much time you are spending doing each task. This way you can see your progress and work towards your goal.

Example: If your goal is to complete the course you may write it at 15 minutes a day. If this is your first goal on your list, you can write it at 1 minute per day. For each other goals, you need to write out how much time you are spending doing each task. If your goal is to read 1 chapter per week, then you need to set aside 15 minutes per week for reading. You can split the reading time between studying and resting, but you must set aside time to read and relax.

4. Review your progress regularly:
After going through your list of goals you need to go through them and check off the completed tasks. You need to review your progress regularly. How many times do you review your list? If your goals are high, you may write one or two tasks on your list and then check them off as you complete them. If your list is low, you may write 20 or more tasks and then review them regularly. This review process is very important. Think about how important your goals are to you. If you have a goal of saving $1,000 by the end of the year, do you need to review your progress frequently, or not?

I hope you have a great year with your goals and new dreams. The next step is to write out the goals and dreams of your new year. It is a common sense step to have these goals and dreams, so I am going to be straightforward here and share the process on what you can do to get started in the New Year.

Goal-write out your dreams and goals and make them as detailed as possible: Your goals need to be as detailed as possible. Make sure they are attainable and specific.
For example, if you want to make $500 per month in income, this needs to be the specific dollar amount so it can be tracked. You also need to be able to track your progress towards your goals as detailed as possible.

For example, “I am making $500 a month in sales” is too vague, “I am making $500 a month in sales” is as specific as you can get. If you cannot track your goal you cannot track your progress.

Goal-write out your financial plan:
Write out your financial plan, specifically what you need to do to accomplish your goals. This is an important step as it is something that many people miss. For example, if your goal is to make $500 a month in income, you need to be able to break down how much you need to make each month to have $500 in your bank account each month. This financial plan will include money management and you will need to have an action plan set up. You will also need to have a schedule for each day. For example, you may have day days set aside for training, you may have other days set aside for office work, you may have other day set aside for family. Every day has to be accounted for and you will need to do this for each week as well.

These are the essential steps in goal setting, but they are just the basics. Most people are completely lacking in these areas, making them fall short in their goals, making them fail and feeling like they have failed.

When you put all the above together, you get the right amount of discipline to succeed in whatever you want in life. I will cover more on the right hand side.

Don’t just focus on the above, but follow the right way to set goals and achieve them too. Remember the secret is to combine the right amount of discipline with an attitude that is optimistic and focused on your goals and you can do it.

Remember I said never focus on failure? Never focus on the negative. Always focus on the positive and try to imagine the possible as much as you can.

If your goal is to make $500 a month in sales, try to imagine how happy you can make being at $500 a month, think about how good you will feel and look forward to being at the number you expect. Don’t focus on the actual amount, focus on what you can do and look forward to. That’s the right way. Do it for each goal you set.
