If you’re like me, you have a tendency to put yourself down. I’ve done it many times and still do it from time to time. I’m not proud of this behavior and I know that it’s a problem for me.
There are many ways that you can overcome this problem, but here are some things that I’ve found helpful.
1. Take a look at your self-talk.
What do you say to yourself? Are you saying things like, “I’m not good enough”, or “I’m fat”, or “I’m ugly”. These are all negative words. Replace them with positive ones. Instead of saying, “I’m not good at this” say, “I am good at this”. Instead of saying, “I don’t look good in these clothes” say, “I look great in these clothes.”
2. Get rid of any negative people around you.
Negative people will always drag you down. If you have a friend who constantly tells you how bad you are at something, or if you have a family member who says mean things about you, get rid of them. You’ll feel better when you’re around people who love you and support you.
3. Make sure that you’re giving yourself credit for what you do accomplish.
When you tell yourself that you’re good at something, be sure to give yourself credit for doing well. Even if you don’t do as well as you’d like to, tell yourself that you did well. This will help you to keep going when you’re feeling discouraged.
4. Learn to recognize your negative thoughts.
Most of us have thoughts that go through our mind at certain times. For example, you may have a thought that goes something like, “I’m not smart enough to do this” or “I’m not smart enough for this”. These thoughts are not true. They’re just thoughts. We think them, but they aren’t really true.
5. Find ways to relax.
Many of us need to take breaks from our stressful jobs and from life. Taking time out to relax helps to relieve stress. You can do this by taking a walk, listening to music, watching television, reading a book, or any other activity that relaxes you.
6. Keep a journal.
Write down your thoughts and feelings about yourself. It doesn’t matter if you write about the positive or negative things that you do or don’t do. Just write down your thoughts and feelings. You may find that writing in your journal helps you to identify your negative thoughts and feelings and to deal with them.
7. Try to learn from your mistakes.
When you make a mistake, don’t beat yourself up. Look at the situation objectively and see where you could have done things differently. Then try to learn from that experience.
8. Set goals. Goals are very important.
Without goals, you won’t have a reason to keep going. So set goals for yourself. Decide what you want to accomplish. Then set a deadline for achieving those goals. If you don’t achieve your goal by the deadline, then set another one.
9. Don’t let your fears stop you.
Some of us are afraid of failing or being embarrassed. But if you truly believe that you can do something, then you should try it. And if you fail, you’ll probably learn a lot from your failure. So don’t let your fear stop you.
10. Take care of yourself.
It’s important to take care of yourself physically and emotionally. Eat right, exercise regularly, get plenty of rest, and keep yourself happy.
11. Surround yourself with positive people.
You’ll be more likely to succeed if you surround yourself with people who are positive.
12. Be willing to make changes.
Sometimes we have to make changes in order to improve ourselves. If you don’t like the way you look, then you need to make changes in your diet, your exercise program, and your appearance.
13. Be patient.
There’s no such thing as overnight success. Success takes time. So don’t expect to become an overnight success.
14. Keep working.
You can’t quit until you succeed.
15. Have fun.
Life isn’t supposed to be miserable. If you’re having fun, then you’re doing something right.
16. Don’t compare yourself to others.
Everyone has their own personality. No two people are exactly alike. So comparing yourself to someone else will only lead to unhappiness.
17. Give yourself credit for your accomplishments.
When you accomplish something, don’t forget to give yourself credit for that accomplishment.
18. Believe in yourself.
If you don’t believe in yourself, then you’ll never be able to succeed.
19. Be positive.
If you’re always thinking about the things that you don’t have or haven’t accomplished, then you’ll never have a reason to get started. Think about the things that you do have. Focus on the things that you do have and that you’re good at.
20. Stay away from negative people.
Negative people will drag you down. They’ll always be telling you how bad you are. So stay away from them.
21. Surround yourself with positive friends.
If you hang out with negative people, then you’ll be surrounded by negativity. So try to spend more time with positive people.
22. Do something every day that you enjoy.
If you do something that you don’t enjoy, then you won’t have a reason for getting started. So choose something that you like to do.
23. Find a hobby.
Hobbies can be very relaxing and enjoyable. If you don’t already have a hobby, then you should consider finding one.
24. Get involved in something.
If you don’t get involved in something, then you’ll have nothing to do with your free time. So get involved in something.
25. Keep a list of things that you want to accomplish.
Every once in awhile, go back over your list and see if there are any items that you’ve forgotten to add to your list.
26. Find something that you’re good at.
If you’re good at something, then you should do it. So find something that you’re good at and do it.
27. Don’t give up.
If you start something and you don’t succeed at it, then don’t give up. Try again.
28. Don’t give up too soon.
If you don’t succeed at something the first time, don’t give up. Try another approach.
29. Find something new.
Don’t get stuck in a rut. If you’re always doing the same thing, then you’ll never be challenged. So find something new.
30. Read motivational books.
Books can motivate you to get started. They can also help you to stay motivated.
31. Try to learn something new.
Learning new things can make you more interesting. So if you’re bored with your job, then try to learn something new.
32. Find a mentor.
A mentor is someone who has succeeded at something that you want to do. They can help you to get started and to keep going.
33. Get plenty of rest.
If you don’t get enough sleep, then you’ll have a hard time concentrating and learning. So make sure that you get plenty of rest.
34. Have a plan.
If you don’t have a plan, then you’ll never know what to do next. So make sure that you have a plan.
35. Have patience.
Patience is important. You’ll have to wait for things to happen. So be patient.
36. Don’t expect too much.
Don’t expect to become rich overnight. If you expect too much, then you’ll be disappointed. So don’t expect too much.
37. Be thankful.
If you don’t have anything to be thankful for, then you’ll never be thankful for anything. So be thankful for everything that you have.
38. Have faith.
Faith is very important. If you don’t have faith, then you’ll never be successful. So be sure that you have faith.
39. Learn from your mistakes.
Mistakes are part of life. If you learn from your mistakes, then you’ll have a better chance of succeeding.
40. Have fun.
If you don’t have fun, then you won’t be able to concentrate on what you’re doing. So have fun.
